Note: The directions given on Google and Map Quest are not always the shortest, simplest, or most accurate. We recommend using the directions given on this webpage. We also recommend not relying on the road numbers until you are within a few miles of the Greenhouse B&B because we are located within 4 miles of the borders of Ford county on three sides and the road numbers change from county to county.
Traveling North OR South on I-57
Clifton is directly east of the Greenhouse B&B, therefore exiting here, while creating a slightly longer driving distance, will take you to the B&B when traveling either direction on I-57. Take the Clifton exit #297 (there's only one exit). If traveling from the north, turn left at the end of the off-ramp. If traveling from the south, turn right at the end of the off-ramp. Travel approximately 100 yards west to the stop sign and make a right turn which will take you into the town of Clifton. Drive into the downtown, then turn left on Third Street. Follow Third Street over some railroad tracks, and continue on this road, due west out of town. You'll go a long way over the open farmland and after about 6 miles there will be a short jog north in the road that will soon jog back to the west. About 10 miles from Clifton you will come to a stop sign (the first one since leaving Clifton). Continue straight (west) past the stop sign for 3 more miles. Turn left on 1700 East at the 3700 N/1700 E intersection and go south for one mile. The Greenhouse Bed and Breakfast is on the left. Look for the large green house with yellow trim. You can't miss it, the nearest neighbor is over 1/4 mile away.
Traveling
South on I-55 from Chicago
Note: if you are coming from Chicago and have the option of
taking either I-55 or I-57, we recommend you take I-57 rather than the route
described here as the route via I-57 is much simpler.
Take Lorenzo Road exit #240 for exiting to Braidwood. Turn left at exit
ramp, cross over I-55, then turn right onto the Frontage Road. Follow
Frontage Road south for ~2 miles to the first stop sign. Turn left at the
stop sign onto Rt. 129. Travel south on Rt.
129 ~ 3 miles to the stop lights in downtown Braidwood.
Turn left onto Rt. 113, cross the railroad tracks, then follow the curve until you
leave Braidwood (you will pass the high school on your right). Look for
the
Essex sign on the right side of the road (~1 mile from Braidwood), and make a
right turn
there (to go toward the small town of Essex). The intersection to Essex is
~70 yards past the Essex road sign and is easy to miss in the dark since there
are many trees and it is a 'T' intersection that only turns right (there is a
also a blue sign to a golf course at this T intersection). Continue on Essex road south for ~10
miles, all the way through Essex to Route 17. Essex road dead ends at Rt. 17, four miles past the town of Essex. Turn left (east) on Rt. 17.
Go 1/4 mile east to the Buckingham sign, turn right (south) to go toward
Buckingham. Go south 12 miles - through one stop sign,
then through the town of Buckingham (Buckingham is very small - you may not realize it
is a town), then past two more stop signs. At the third stop sign (3700 N Road)
turn left (east) and go 1 mile. Turn right on 1700 East at the 3700 N/1700
E intersection and go south for one mile. The Greenhouse
Bed and Breakfast is on the left. Look for the large green house with
yellow trim. You can't miss it, the nearest neighbor is over 1/4 mile
away. (Warning: this route can be a challenge in the dark when the
landmarks and signs are difficult to see. )
Traveling North on I-55 from Bloomington
Exit at #197 for Pontiac. Travel east on Rt. 116 through Pontiac. Continue east through the towns of Saunemin and Cullom. After the intersection of Rt. 116 and Rt. 115, continue 2 more miles east to 1600 E. Turn left and go north on 1600 E for 3 miles to 3600 N. Turn right on 3600 N and go 1 mile east. The Greenhouse Bed and Breakfast is the large green house with yellow trim on the corner. Turn left at the corner and the driveway will be immediately on your right.
Traveling South from I-39/Morris/Dwight area
Travel east out of Dwight on Ill. Rte 17. When ~2 miles past the small town of Reddick (~10 miles east of Dwight), turn right (south) at the sign for Cabery (it will be 8 miles to Cabery). Continue south past Cabery for four more miles until you reach the Kempton road. There will be a sign for Kempton to the west. Turn left (east) away from Kempton and travel for 3 miles. Turn right on 1700 East at the 3700 N/1700 E intersection and go south for one mile. The Greenhouse Bed and Breakfast is on the left at the corner. Look for the large green house with yellow trim.
