Guia's study of culinary arts at the well respected Joliet Junior College Culinary Arts school, along with a lifetime of cooking and entertaining, polished her talent at creating unique culinary delights. Although her background is in Asian cooking, she particularly enjoys preparing European dishes, and over the years has developed a style of her own. She is especially skilled at seafood dishes, and skillfully meets the needs of those on vegetarian or restricted diets. Over the years Guia has incorporated her understanding of nutrition into the food she prepares. She generally avoids cooking with hydrogenated oils, normally substitutes honey or other natural sweeteners for sugar, and uses sea salt.
